Today, there are millions upon millions of websites competing to be first place on search engines. The competition can be merciless and waits for no one.

Modern writers understand the importance of combining original content with SEO best practices to succeed on the web. New writers joining the SEO marketing bandwagon may seem like sheep among wolves trying to survive.

So, how can a business create content that stands out from the rest in 2022?

It’s actually not that hard. Only two things are needed.

  1. Target search engines (Computers)
  2. Target people (humans)

But… how?

This article will help you skyrocket your website traffic and market your services with 9 undisputable strategies… So keep reading!

Strategy #1: Write an Efficient SEO Title

Look closely at the websites that appear on the first pages of Google and look for the little snippet full of content. That snippet is meant for users to read and judge your link before clicking.

According to Moz, SEO titles should be around 70 characters. Why? Because Google will cut off your snippet if that limit is exceeded. This can affect your organic click-through rate.

How can you make sure your SEO title won’t be cut off? There are various tools you can use. I personally use the To The Web SEO title and Meta description length counter to ensure my snippet is within the acceptable length.

If you want to write a great SEO title, here are additional points to keep in mind:

  • Make it interesting
  • Your target keyword must be in the title
  • Make it appeal to emotions
  • Use numbers to catch people’s attention

Strategy #2: Write a Good Meta Description

The meta description can do wonders for organic traffic. Of course, only if it’s done right. Just like SEO titles, they are converted into a short 150 character snippet. So, try to remember not to go over the recommended character count, or the meta description will be cut off.

They carry essential information the reader can then use to decide to click or not on the link.

Meta descriptions are fantastic places where you can put your target keywords. This improves your probability of ranking for specific topics on the web.

Strategy #3: Format Headings (H1,H2,H3) Correctly

Oh boy, is this an important aspect! Formatting an article the right way will save the reader so much time. People are like search engines in the sense that they also scan your paper before reading it. If there is something that interests them, they will keep reading.

Great habits to consistently implement in your headings are:

  • Always use H1, H2, H3 when it’s relevant
  • Put target keywords or phrases in them
  • Use a simple format and stick to it (don’t try to get too fancy)

Using confusing formats or not using one will make it hard for readers to know where they are on the article. In the end, they will get bored and move on to another place.

Strategy #4: Use Relevant Pictures

Relevant pictures can have a significant impact on the retention rates of your article. They are eye candy for the reader. Using the right images will engage the reader further into the article. When he is getting bored, WHAM, an eye candy, appears and sucks him in again.

However, images need to relate to the article or heading itself. On the other hand, random photos that don’t make any sense will lose the reader. So, if you are talking about coffee, stick to images related to coffee (i.e., coffee mugs, coffee beans, etc.)

The length of your article will determine how many pictures you’ll need to use. An article of 1000 words can use about 1–3 images. The longer the article, the more photos you’ll need. Just don’t overkill it because then you’ll website load time will be affected.

Tip for WordPress users:

If you own a website, download the SMUSH plugin to compress your images. This will speed up your website if you have too many large images.

Strategy #5: Make Snappy Intros

Snappy intros persuade more readers to keep reading than long and boring intros. Intros that deliver what they have promised are a great tool for any writer.

If you want to make excellent intros, consider the following tips:

  • Make them around 150 words
  • Make them clear
  • Speak to the reader
  • Target pain points and possible solutions
  • Use conversational tone
  • Use statistics
  • Use quotes
  • Invite the reader to use their imagination (directly or indirectly)

Important Note: If you don’t have a meta description, some search engines like Google will take a small portion of your introductory paragraph and place it as its meta description on the search results.

Strategy #6: Sprinkle Relevant Keywords (LSI Keywords)

Relevant keywords or target words is a term that refers to the main idea of your webpage or blog post. Users put these words in search engines to look for answers. When you sprinkle them in your paragraphs and headings, there are higher probabilities Google will list you on the first page.

An LSI keyword is a phrase or word that is close enough to the primary keyword (Think of it as a synonym). You can use LSIGraph: Keyword Generator to get fresh ideas of trending words and which ones you can use in your articles.

Related keywords can increase your website traffic and retention rate because they help:

  • Writers and marketers discover topics to write about.
  • Inspire new blog post ideas.
  • Help explain related topics.
  • Marketers find variations to the target word.
  • Classify and rank a page
  • Ease the SEO content strategy

Strategy #7: Use Authoritative Links

Authoritative links often come from websites that have outstanding credibility within their niche. These websites often publish scientific studies that journalists and other media use to back up their information.

Some websites to avoid using to do research are “Wikipedia,” “Investopedia,” or anything that ends with “pedia.”

Needless to say, avoid using your competitor’s links to show how good your products are. That would affect your SEO while boosting theirs.

Always try to use websites with authoritative domains, such as .edu, .org, and .gov.

Strategy #8: Exhaust Internal Linking

Internal links are super easy to create and use. According to Backlinko, internal links are “hyperlinks that point to pages on the same domain. These are different from external links, which link out to pages on other domains.”

In layman’s terms, think of internal linking as a very discrete call to action within your content.

Some of the benefits of internal linking include:

  • Increased website retention
  • Work great for promoting products and services.
  • Indirectly improve your SEO

The more time a user clicks through your website, the more Google’s algorithm believes you are offering quality content. Hence, improving your SEO.

Strategy #9: Add CTAs

Adding Call To Actions (CTAs) at the end can help you increase your ROI and indirectly improve your SEO.

When people click on links on your website, Google interprets it as user engagement. The more clicks Google detects, the more Google will consider improving your SEO.

CTAs are great for inviting viewers to:

  • Visit another part of your website
  • Fill out a contact form
  • Buy from the company
  • Sign up for a newsletter

So there you have it! These are 9 easy ways to improve the SEO of any article. The truth is, writing SEO content isn’t so hard, and you can easily do it with the tips mentioned above.

If you want to write SEO-friendly, high-quality content, you need to implement these tips:

  1. Write an efficient SEO Title
  2. Write a good meta description
  3. Format Headings (H1, H2, H3) Correctly
  4. Use relevant pictures
  5. Make snappy intros
  6. Add relevant keywords (LSI keywords)
  7. Use authoritative links
  8. Exhaust Internal Linking
  9. Add CTAs
